The Can-Am Defender MAX family of side-by-side vehicles is designed to beat the competition by offering a tough, capable and cleaver package to enhance work, agricultural, hunting and outdoor recreational experiences. The Defender MAX family offers comfortable seating for up to six adults,unmatched versatility with its pick-up truck-inspired features and enhanced stability from its 115.5-in. (293.4 cm) long chassis. Two new models were added to the 2018 Can-Am Defender Max Lineup. The all-new market point-of-entry Defender MAX HD8 arrives with unbeatable value, while the conveniently
configured Defender MAX XT Cab HD10 includes a fully sealed, factory-installed cab and integrated heater system for unprecedented comfort.

Several additional improvements were added to the Can-Am Defender side-by-side vehicle family for 2018. New front arched A-arms and a new sway bar increase the XT Cab package’s track width, provide an 11-in. (28 cm) ground clearance and improve handling in
challenging terrain. All XT packages get a new front bumper. New larger 27-in. (68.6 cm) Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires are now standard on both the HD8 and HD10 Convenience vehicles. All Can-Am Defender family vehicles also receive a cargo box deflector to eliminate debris from the cargo bed reaching the engine compartment. A a revised shifter gate, for smoother operation and durability, and second generation Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) were also added to the full line of Defender MAX vehicles.

 

Defender MAX XT CAB HD10

The Can-Am Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle is available with either a 72hp Rotax HD10 or a 50-hp Rotax HD8 heavy-duty engine.  With either package, the rear-mounted engine is joined to a PRO-TORQ Transmission with an exclusive Quick Response System (QRS)that enhances low-speed riding and offers smooth engagement, as well as better belt life and true dependability with its optimized ventilation and electronic belt protection.

The Defender MAX vehicle has a 32.5-in. (82.5 cm) longer chassis (compared to the single bench seat Defender) with automotive-like technology and fabrication tolerances that are in line with the quality and strength found in modern pick-up trucks. An easy and cost-effective maintenance system requires no break-in maintenance and lets owners spend more time doing what they need to do – getting jobs done.

When it comes to hard work, the Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle impresses with its class-leading towing, hauling and payload capabilities. A Can-Am-exclusive TTA-HD rear suspension provides optimal comfort, drivability and durability, and has 10 inches (25.4 cm) of travel.

The Defender MAX vehicles is also laden with unmatched terrain competencies by way of its versatile 4-mode traction system, three selectable engine-operating modes, superb tight turning radius and available, specific-tuned Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) system for enhanced maneuverability.

All Can-Am Defender MAX vehicles are built with clever and adaptable solutions to work smarter. The versatile cargo box dumps easily and can haul up to 1,000-lb. (454 kg). Furthermore, it is compatible with the Can-Am LinQ quick-attach accessory system and is functionally designed for the workingman with multiple integrated recesses, cutouts, walls and tie-down points.

A roomy and intuitive cockpit features tilt steering, an A-pillar that has been configured to improve entry/exit and visibility, and dual VERSA-PRO bench seats with two 40/20/40 profiled benches that comfortably accommodates up to six adults. The industry’s most versatile cockpit provides ample in-dash storage with an exclusive removable toolbox, available removable waterproof under-seat storage, cup holders and more. NEW CAN-AM DEFENDER MAX XT CAB

The all-new Defender MAX XT Cab HD10 arrives with a premium full cab enclosure from the factory and all the dependable and clever Defender family engineering benefits. On top of all the Defender MAX XT features as standard equipment, the new MAX XT Cab HD10
unit’s cab includes a full glass windshield, wiper/washer kit, full doors with electric windows (front) and hinged windows (rear), hard roof with liner, an interior dome light and a sliding rear glass window. The cab kit was optimized for enhanced quality and to create a
true 100 percent enclosed system.

The MAX XT Cab also includes new arched front A-arms that increase the vehicle’s track width and allows for increased ground clearance for more capabilities in rough terrain. The addition of a new front sway bar also improves handling.

– Full glass tilt up windshield with wiper and washer kit
The full, high-grade glass windshield is durable and highly scratch resistant. It also includes a wiper and washer kit with a 0.4-Gal.(1.9 L) reservoir for improved visibility in wet weather or muddy conditions. The windshield can also be tilted up (three positions) and
outward to increase airflow to the occupants during mild conditions. The switch allowing for opening and tilting the front window was enhanced for increased reliability.

– Full doors with electric opening windows
The Can-am Defender MAX XT Cab vehicle features full doors to enclose the occupants within the cab. The comfortable and spacious cabin also offers the occupants protection from the elements an, with an integrated heater, warmth in cool regions. The durable
front doors have electronic opening windows, much like a pick-up truck, while the rear window can be opened manually. For 2018, Can-Am engineers have added new steel wire door limiter strap for improved function and durability. They also updated the door seals
to create a more perfected seal, which also enhanced the opening and closing of the cab doors in the process.

– Rear glass with sliding opening
A new rear glass window uses new stiffer rear panel mounting points for easier operation when opening it. The sliding opening on the rear window allows for airflow through the cab on warm days and provides quick access to items in the cargo bed.

– Integrated heater kit
The factory-installed, integrated heater system has been optimized for better performance in the cold and for use during other seasons as well. New isolating foam ensures a true 100 percent seal. When the heater is set to “cool,” new, one-way valves on the heater prevent coolant from circulating. Additionally, the cooling routing was reconfigured and larger routing components were used to expand the kit’s overall heating capacity.

– Full hard roof with liner and dome light
A durable, heavy-duty plastic roof with an integrated liner protects the occupants from elements while giving the Defender XT Cab units a custom appearance and unbeatable fit-and-finish. A new standard dome light helps illuminate the cab during low-light
situations.

– 4,500-lb. (2,041 kg) Can-Am winch
The winch is designed to handle heavy-duty loads at the work site and on the trail, thanks to its 4,500-lb. capacity and roller fairlead. A convenient button was also added to the console on the left side of the steering wheel for easy operation.

– XT Bumper
A durable, powder-coated black front bumper enhances the XT Cab vehicle’s fascia while also adding protection.

The Defender MAX XT Cab vehicles have a new, arched front double A-Arm suspension system designed to offer a wider stance for improved predictable handling and control even in difficult terrain. With 10-in. of travel, the ride is smooth in all situations, even when carrying heavy loads.

– TTA-HD rear suspension (10-in. / 25.4 cm travel)
The Defender MAX heavy-duty Torsional Trailing A-arms (TTA-HD) are designed specifically for utility and recreational usage, offering a full 10-in. (25.4 cm) of travel to provide a smooth ride whatever the terrain. Its architecture offers optimal comfort and drivability

The Defender MAX line of utility side-by-side vehicles is also available with the highly popular XT package, which includes a winch,large cast-aluminum wheels, roof and more for a customized fit-and-finish. The package includes a new front XT bumper for 2018.

The dual VERSA-PRO bench seats include a reinforced seat cover on the XT models. The high-quality bench seats offer the same versatility as the DPS seats, but the cover uses a thicker vinyl construction and special material to endure everyday use on the farm,
job site and trail. In addition, the XT VERSA-PRO bench seat comes with a 3-in. (8 cm) adjustable driver’s seat (forward/rearward) for added comfort and better ingress/egress.

The open dash design features a handy removable and water-resistant 1.7-Gal. (6.3 L) toolbox, an industry exclusive, to allow users to carefully carry tools and supplies they need in an organized manner. In addition, it includes 6-Gal. (22.8 L) of under dash storage

The 5.6-Gal. (21 L) enclosed under seat storage beneath the front passenger seat offers a large waterproof space for the most precious items, and is easily removable for the user’s convenience.

– Multifunction analog / digital gauge with enclosed storage
The multifunction analog/digital gauge package includes state-of-the-art instrumentation as well as an additional enclosed and water-resistant 0.9-Gal. (3.4 L) storage section to protect smaller items. This includes an analog tachometer and speedometer
combined with an advanced digital information center.

– Three driving modes
The driver can select between three different driving modes on the Can-Am Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle to adapt to personal preference and the riding conditions: Eco, Normal and Work. Normal mode has no speed or torque limitations and is optimized for recreational use with no load or a light workload. Work mode is calibrated for working with high loads in a smooth manner, offering a smooth power delivery along with full power and torque. ECO mode limits both high-range speed and torque to produce moderate driving with regulated-but-smooth acceleration.

– Full skid plate
The high-strength full skid plate (center and sides on XT) is designed for supreme protection and provides the ability to slide over
certain obstacles.

The Defender MAX DPS packages have the entire Defender and 2018 model year updates (second generation DPS, cargo box deflector and updated shifter) and also supplies consumers with a few upgrades over the base package.

– Rotax V-Twin Engines
• The Defender MAX DPS side-by-side vehicle offers two very capable power plant options. The 72hp Rotax HD10 V-Twin is specifically tuned for serious work but also offers 61 lb.-ft. torque and peak torque at lower RPM for optimal delivery during recreational use.
• The work-focused Rotax HD8 V-Twin delivers 50hp and 50 lb.-ft. torque for tough tasks.

– PRO-TORQ Transmission
The PRO-TORQ Transmission is specifically calibrated to meet the utilitarian demands of the Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle. The transmission features a Quick Response System (QRS) that enhances low-speed riding, delivers smoother and more responsive
power delivery and offers precise engagement. Larger CVT ratios with a work-specific low gear ensure optimal torque delivery for heavy loads. At low speeds, optimized ventilation improves belt durability and ensures more efficient power transfer. The Electronic
Drive Belt Protection monitors the CVT belt to determine its condition and alerting the driver when necessary. This device offers belt-spotting protection to alert the driver if he or she is in high gear, but should be in low gear. The vehicle will not move and a
“LOW GEAR” message will appear on the gauge, alerting the driver. The Defender MAX side-by-side vehicles also come standard with Park, Reverse, Neutral, High and extra Low. The system offers smooth shifting, along with integrated hill descent control for smooth,
predictable deceleration.

A helical gear transmission provides a quiet environment for the operator. The rear, maintenance-free differential gear-on-gear components are efficient, responsive and also built to last.

With zero break-in maintenance required and an annual maintenance schedule, Defender MAX side-by-side vehicles reduce total maintenance costs for owners. The yearly advised maintenance intervals are 1,865 miles (3,000 km) or 200 hours.

– Easy access for serviceability
Can-Am engineers, gathering insights and feedback from owners, created a convenient platform for service, improving access to components with a special focus on do-ityourself and ease of maintenance. A Service Center is located beneath the front hood with
easy access to brake fluid, toolkit, fuse box and diagnostic connector. The rear-end also features easily-reachable maintenance elements such as engine bay, oil dipstick, air filter, CVT, transmission and coolant. Other critical parts such as the battery, bushings,

Standard on all DPS-equipped vehicles, the refined second-generation DPS system is tuned for utility applications while also offering responsiveness for recreational usage. Defender MAX side-by-side vehicles have a tight 17.3 ft. (527 cm) turning radius for easy maneuverability in restricted work environments, hauling heavy loads and for recreational use. The highly durable Cargo box has a 1,000-lb. (454 kg) load capacity and simple dumping capability. Clever features include 5-Gal. (18.9 L) pail recesses, integrated anchors on the sidewalls and several tie-down points for added convenience. To fully optimize
the sizeable cargo box, consumers can divide the box using the integrated recesses. The box allows for both 1×3 and plywood separators and accepts bed extenders for refining the bed’s overall dimensions. The cargo box is also adaptable to accept 14 LinQ quick-attach accessories for further customization.

The dual VERSA-PRO bench seats are engineered as a 40/20/40 bench seat, inspired by modern pick-up trucks. The Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle can comfortably accommodate up to six adults and features profiled” corners to improve entry/exit of the cab, as well as a sturdy vinyl cover for improved wear resistance. The five passenger seats have integrated hooks on their underside and can be flipped up to improve onboard storage. Can-Am designers also added front and rear foldable armrests with cup holders for additional convenience.

The location of the gauge is strategically positioned in front of the driver to increase readability. The LCD gauge displays key information including speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip and hour meters, fuel level, gear position, seat belt and 4×4 indicators, diagnostics, clock and auto shutoff. A 0.7-Gal. (2.6 L) compartment behind the gauge cluster offers an easy-access storage solution for the driver.

The new 2018 Defender MAX HD8 vehicle, a market point-of-entry model, retains all the Defender MAX package family benefits at an exceptional value—$12,399 (US only). With the ability to haul up to six people and 1,000-lbs. in its cargo bed, the Defender MAX HD8 vehicle is as versatile as they come. A heavy-duty 50hp Rotax HD8 V-Twin engine and PRO-TORQ transmission team up to give the vehicle impressive power and torque for tackling tough trails and tougher jobs. The double A-arm front suspension and TTA-HD rear suspension provide 10-in. (25.4 cm) of suspension travel for trail comfort and
tackling rugged terrain. A selectable 2WD / 4WD with Visco-Lok auto-locking front differential provides added control and nimbleness off the beaten path. New painted black cast-aluminum wheels with 27-in. (68.6 cm) Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires provide ample traction and a classic look. The fitand- finish includes the VERSA-PRO front and rear bench seating with flip-up seats and hooks for added cargo convenience.

– PRO-TORQ Transmission
The PRO-TORQ Transmission is specifically calibrated to meet the utilitarian demands of the Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle. The transmission features a Quick Response System (QRS) that enhances low-speed riding, delivers smoother and more responsive
power delivery and offers precise engagement. Larger CVT ratios with a work-specific low gear ensure optimal torque delivery for heavy loads. At low speeds, optimized ventilation improves belt durability and ensures more efficient power transfer. The Electronic
Drive Belt Protection monitors the CVT belt to determine its condition and alerting the driver when necessary. This device offersbelt-spotting protection to alert the driver if he or she is in high gear, but should be in low gear. The vehicle will not move and a
“LOW GEAR” message will appear on the gauge, alerting the driver. The Defender MAX side-by-side vehicles also come standard with Park, Reverse, Neutral, High and extra Low. The system offers smooth shifting, along with integrated hill descent control for smooth,
predictable deceleration.

A helical gear transmission provides a quiet environment for the operator. The rear, maintenance-free differential gear-on-gear
components are efficient, responsive and also built to last.

With zero break-in maintenance required and an annual maintenance schedule, Defender MAX side-by-side vehicles reduce total maintenance costs for owners. The yearly advised maintenance intervals are 1,865 miles (3,000 km) or 200 hours.

Can-Am engineers, gathering insights and feedback from owners, created a convenient platform for service, improving access to components with a special focus on do-ityourself and ease of maintenance. A Service Center is located beneath the front hood with
easy access to brake fluid, toolkit, fuse box and diagnostic connector. The rear-end also features easily-reachable maintenance elements such as engine bay, oil dipstick, air filter, CVT, transmission and coolant. Other critical parts such as the battery, bushings,
drainage /cleaning holes and light bulbs have been also strategically positioned for a quick-access.

The Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle is an extremely capable off-road vehicle and a legitimate workhorse that uses a 32.5-in. (82.5 cm) longer chassis with automotive-like technology and fabrication tolerances that are in line with modern pick-up trucks. Sturdy, lightweight, 14-in. cast-aluminum wheels with a unique painted black finish come standard. The 27-in. (68.6 cm) Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires feature a rugged six-ply radial construction, yet are lightweight to cut down on unsprung weight. The nondirectional

All Can-Am Defender models feature a 2-inch (5.1 cm) hitch receiver. Its standard size means a hitch can be transferred directly from a work truck.

– Multifunction Cargo Box With Sturdy Tailgate
The highly durable Cargo box has a 1,000-lb. (454 kg) load capacity and simple dumping capability. Clever features include 5-Gal.(18.9 L) pail recesses, integrated anchors on the sidewalls and several tie-down points for added convenience. To fully optimize the
sizeable cargo box, consumers can divide the box using the integrated recesses. The box allows for both 1×3 and plywood separators and accepts bed extenders for refining the bed’s overall dimensions. The cargo box is also adaptable to accept 14 LinQ quick-attach
accessories for further customization.

Additionally, the sturdy tailgate can withstand ordinary farm use and serve as a seat during your lunch break (max weight: 250 lb. / 113 kg).It can also be removed in seconds without tools. A new cargo box deflector was added to the Defender side-by-side vehicles for 2018.
The deflector rests between the front of the cargo box and the cab and features a clever design to prevent cargo and trail debris from leaving the cargo box.

– Dual Versa-Pro Bench Seats; Pick-Up Truck-Inspired Seating
The dual VERSA-PRO bench seats are engineered as a 40/20/40 bench seat, inspired by modern pick-up trucks. The Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle can comfortably accommodate up to six adults and features profiled” corners to improve entry/exit of the cab, as well as a sturdy vinyl cover for improved wear resistance. The Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle offers a spacious cockpit with unmatched fitand-finish. Engineers optimized the interior ergonomics for a wide range of uses. Tilt steering, improved sightlines, enhanced storage and overall cockpit volume improve comfort and convenience. The A-pillar was moved far forward to provide almost effortless entry/exit and to enhance visibility for all the occupants. More interior cabin and dash space, rather than overall exterior hood size, creates a more spacious interior.

– Tilt steering
The steering wheel was specifically designed for utility applications with a larger diameter for improved handling and control. The automotive-like tilt steering lets drivers adjust it up to 25 degrees to their preferred driving style and ergonomics. It offers also an easier maneuvering while entering/exiting the vehicle.

– Multifunction digital gauge with open storage
The location of the gauge is strategically positioned in front of the driver to increase readability. The LCD gauge displays key information including speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip and hour meters, fuel level, gear position, seat belt and 4×4 indicators, diagnostics, clock and auto shutoff. A 0.7-Gal. (2.6 L) compartment behind the gauge cluster offers an easy-access storage solution for the driver.

– Cup holders
The new Can-Am Defender MAX side-by-side vehicle has six easily accessible cup holders. Four cup recesses are also incorporated into the cargo box tailgate for added convenience.

– Rugged ergonomically configured grab bar and three foot rests
The ergonomically placed grab bar and footrests allow for optimal occupant stability and comfort.

– Profiled cage
The profiled cage means it provides a “flush fit” when quickly incorporating the extensive list of Can-Am cabin accessories. The sturdy Profile cage (steel) meets Rollover Protective Structures (ROPS) industry standards and is certified ISO 3471 and OSHA. It is designed
in tandem with the Can-Am Cabin and genuine accessories to ensure the best fit-and-finish and seamless integration in the industry.
